David Palumbo, Taken, 2012

The artist explains that this painting is not of a specific story: “I had a job some years back where I was directed simply to make ‘something scary.’ Of the different ideas I explored, the best ones seemed to center on vulnerability, and the scary stuff being the cruelty of other people. The client picked a different option but I painted this anyhow because it felt resonant. It’s about the emotional story, being overwhelmed, more than any particular narrative.”
