Miguel Madariaga, Nights in March and Strange Events, 2020

The artist writes “I painted this at the beginning of March as a reflection of the fear that we started to see around that time on the internet about the pandemic, before the virus came to Mexico, where I live. It was this fear that was beginning to make us feel threatened, which led to our inevitable confinement. The skulls are a reflection of this fear. The screen is our escape and avoidance of the fear, while at the same time the source of it.”
