Max Renneisen, Strangers in Paradise, 2018

The young couple awkwardly stands naked in a pastoral landscape on a sunny day. She smiles for the camera. He looks down uncomfortably. The artist writes “I find my figures in old nudist magazines and place them in landscapes inspired by Old Master paintings. I want to work in the great tradition without denying modern imagery. So the couple is iconographically like Adam and Eve, but of course they are contemporaries searching for paradise. Their story is up to the beholder to imagine.”
