Gabriela Dellosso, Varo’s Moon (Self-Portrait), 2014

Of this painting the artist writes that it is part of her series called Homage; a tribute to historical women artists. Here Dellosso references “…Remedios Varo’s imagery of moons in cages. I based this painting on Remedios’ painting ‘Celestial Pablum.’ I wanted to recreate that painting in my own style, so I interpreted the scene using my own image to play the character in the painting. I wanted to convey the idea of confronting a moon in a cage, which could be magical, yet a little bit perilous.”
