Jennifer Campbell, Red Light Blueviolet, 2017

The scene is set in Kyoto, the city where you are most likely to spot a geisha in the street, as we see here in the background. The artist has used herself as the model and is shown twice; first, she is getting kicked out of the sushi restaurant on her ass. Her hand is bandaged and she’s missing a shoe, forcing us to wonder what on earth has happened to her in the moments previous. We see her again as she dejectedly walks away under the garish lights of the entertainment district signs. All the writing on the signage is backwards, adding to absurdity of the scene.
