The artist explains best: “It’s one of my first paintings. I started painting late in life but with much drive. This is a painting of my grandmother – we loved each other a lot, we had a good relationship, and we took care of one another. I was there in her last moments. After her death I came across a photo we had taken then, although it was hard to look at – those are my hands in hers. It hurt to paint it but I was motivated by the photo and so I decided to try it. As I mentioned, I had little painting experience then and so perhaps there is more love than technical skill embedded in it.”
