Lebow writes: “I was influenced a lot by a rough painting sketch I saw back then by Pietro Annigoni, the great 20th Century Italian artist. The idea for the character with the fool’s hat comes from that Annigoni sketch. I was trying to make a crazy party of excess and the fellow with the bottle on the right is my self-portrait at the time. I was in my early 30’s and had just gotten sober, so the whole thing is a bit autobiographical.”
