Edgar Allen Poe’s 4-page short story ‘The Tell-Tale Heart’ is an American classic. It’s a fascinating and haunting tale of murder, now available online for free. I won’t spoil the ending but the quote for this illustration is as follows: “It was open — wide, wide open, and my anger increased as it looked straight at me. I could not see the old man’s face. Only that eye, that hard blue eye, and the blood in my body became like ice.”
