Greg Hergert, Three Graces, 2016

The Three Graces have been depicted in art countless times over millennia. They come from the nine Charities in Greek mythology, but the norm is to depict three of them frolicking together. They represent amusement and festivities. Hergert is one of us narrative painters here in Portland. He characterizes himself as an Urban Surrealist and he gets his inspiration from the dark underbelly of the city. Hergert has put his own spin on the Graces; he writes “For some reason watching a performance on your cell causes you to miss what’s right in front of you. Faith Hope and Charity are lost in cyber space.”
