Dan Schein, The Skepticism of the Angry Man Landed Him in a Mire of Gloom and Doom, 2016

In a dark and ruined landscape a man sits in his rowboat clutching an oar, seething mad. There’s a skull in the swampy water and a dead fish hangs over the edge of the boat. The sky is a puke-green colour and the trees are missing their foliage; it looks as though a tornado has ripped through the place, or perhaps it is a scene of nuclear fallout. The rough painting handling and black outlines resemble those of comic strips, and so we laugh at the angry man and not with him.

Why is he so angry anyway? When asked, Schein wrote that the narrative is up to us viewers to decide.
