Thrandur Thorarinsson, Neck, 2015

Thorarinsson writes that “A ‘neck’ or ‘nykur’ in Icelandic is a folkloric being described as a majestic white horse that would appear near rivers, lakes, or the sea, particularly during foggy weather. Anyone who climbed onto its back would not be able to get off again. The horse would then jump into the river, drowning the rider. This water creature has its counterparts in Scandanavia, Germany, and in Scotland.” Here we see our poor victim turning blue at the bottom of the sea, yet unable to let go of Neck’s mane.
