Gerald Van Scyoc, Jezebel, 2018

The Hebrew bible tells the story of Jezebel, a Phoenician princess who instituted the worship of the gods Baal and Asherah to Israel and had the prophets of Yahweh executed. As punishment for her crimes she was defenestrated, that is, thrown out a window. 2 Kings 9:33-36 states “So they threw her down. And some of her blood spattered on the wall and on the horses, and they trampled on her [… and] the dogs shall eat the flesh of Jezebel.” Van Scyoc remarks “I don’t know who the guy is in the corner. Probably someone surprised to see a dead woman on the street in her underwear.”
