Julie Heffernan, Self-Portrait as Shelter, 2017

Heffernan is deeply concerned about environmental issues and the world we are leaving for future generations. This painting is about rethinking habitats in a new world confronted by climate change. The artist says “The way homes are built now using so many resources is definitely not sustainable, so I wanted to create a system of shanty towns that are made up of your own personal belongings. In the back there is a black mirror reflecting the chaos that is in this world, our world.”
