William McGregor Paxton, Odysseus and Nausicaä, 1937

In Homer’s Odyssey, Odysseus is shipwrecked on the island of Scheria. The next morning the beautiful princess Nausicaä, daughter of King Alcinous, goes to the shore with her maidens to wash clothes and play a game. When a naked Odysseus spots them, the maidens run away, having only known the men of their island and being scared of all outsiders. Nausicaä remains and helps him make contact with her father’s court. Alcinous provides ships so that Odysseus can complete his 10 year journey and return to Ithaca.

Today our dear artist friend Elliot Wall and his wife Monique had a baby and they named her Nausicaä. Welcome to the world Nausicaä!
